What You Need to Know About Infertility Insurance

Infertility can be devastating to any couple. Not just emotionally, but also financially. Medical procedures to counter infertility can cost a fortune and sometimes they even don't work. This can seriously deplete your savings, savings that you kept for your future family. What sense is there in starting a family when you have to spend all the money you saved for it in medical procedures? This is where infertility insurance comes in.

Normally, a couple who cannot conceive will have to undergo some kind of In Vitro Fertilization (IVF), a process that fertilizes the woman's egg outside of her womb. This is very expensive and will cost a couple thousands of dollars. This is compounded by the fact that it sometimes takes multiple sessions of IVF to actually get a result. If you don't have the resources, this can be a solution that is just out of your reach. Imagine having the means to start your own family but not being able to afford it!

But with infertility insurance, this does not have to be your fate. If you are insured, the insurance company can actually pay for the required procedures and reimburse you should they not work. These procedures range from the artificial insemination, to laparoscopic surgery, and diagnostic fertility tests. Because of the benefits, some people who can afford the procedures on their own still get insured to be sure they get what they need to start their family.

Infertility insurance is like regular health insurance. Some companies will offer different services with different requirements. Some, like Standard Health Insurance, provide a fertility plan covered by the company and require a monthly premium from the couple. Some companies offer benefits in the form of a refund program. This works by giving the majority of the couple's money back (around 70% of what they put out) should the procedures fail to solve their problems. Some companies can help couples by offering loans through financing. These loans don't have to be paid as well should the procedures fail. Know more about the policies available and try to choose the one you think is best for you. This will help you ensure that you are getting what you paid for.

Some requirements have to be met for a couple to avail of infertility insurance. Some companies will have requirements like the couple must have an existing insurance policy, or they must be 40 or below, or conclusive proof that they are indeed suffering from infertility. There can be a waiting period of up to one year after a couple does get approved for the policy. This is standard procedure and is still a worthwhile wait if the policy ends up helping you start a family.

Being infertile does not mean you have to end yours dreams of having your own family. With insurance, you can get those procedures that you need and that dream family will be that closer to a reality. Contact your insurance company and learn if they have a policy for infertility. Know what you need and insure yourself appropriately. With the right insurance, you don't have to be a royalty to start your family.
